Christmas spirit helps Mid Argyll move on
The enormous amount of donations made in the lead-up to Christmas.
Thanks to people’s generosity in the lead-up to the festive season, Moving On Mid Argyll (MOMA) was able to help a number of families struggling to make ends meet.
The charity launched its 12 Days of Christmas bag appeal in mid-November with help from stores in Lochgilphead and Ardfern willing to take donations.
A total of 150 12 Days of Christmas bags were collected, filled with all manner of food, toiletries and other seasonal treats from the donation boxes.
MOMA used all these donations to make up Christmas parcels for families who are struggling to make ends meet – especially at Christmas and with the current cost of living crisis.
Eighty parcels were put together on December 21 and despatched via social services, CAB, Carr Gomm, MAYDS and other agencies to nominated recipients.
“This was achieved with the help of many people and the trustees of MOMA would like to thank the team in The Community Shop in Lochgilphead for managing the 12 Days of Christmas bags; Ardfern Stores, the Argyll Pharmacy, BeeSweet, Marmalade Deli and the Square Peg for hosting donation boxes and the Riverside for helping us to source 80 cooked chickens!” said a spokesperson for MOMA. “Not forgetting, of course, the Co-op and
St Margaret’s which host MOMA donation boxes all year around.”
The MOMA volunteers were ably assisted in packing the parcels by an enthusiastic team of S6 pupils from Lochgilphead Joint Campus. “So grateful thanks to them, too,” added the spokesperson. “And the biggest thanks of all to everyone who filled a bag or donated in store – your kindness was so much appreciated.”
