Generous donation

-

Lochgilphead Primary School’s P4/3 has made a generous donation to charity after raising £64.25.

The class took part in a Christmas market in Lochgilphead Joint Campus before Christmas and various classes in the primary school made items to sell and had a stall there.

Most of the classes then used the money they earned from this to purchase items for their respective classes, but the P4/3 pupils decided, unprompted, that they would like to give all of the money they raised to charity.

The class made several different things to sell: Festive table centres on rounded flat stones with a t-light in the middle surrounded by a selection of pine cones and other similar forest floor findings; decorated t-light holders - ramekin dish covered in tissue paper giving a stained glass effect; decorated Christmas trees made from lollipop sticks.

They raised £64.25 and instead of buying resources for the classroom they decided to give to charity because “it feels nice to help people” and because “it is kind”.

There was a discussion about the charities to donate to with homeless people, cancer and water charities discussed.

The suggestions came from the pupils, partly from personal experience and partly from an awareness of world issues, like problems with getting clean water to drink in some countries.

They are all very aware that “everyone needs water to survive” and that some people are having to drink water that “is dirty”.

The class voted and decided to split the money in half and give half to a cancer charity which operates locally and the other half is going to Water Aid.
