Fiddle club gets off to cracking start
Inveraray and District Accordion & Fiddle Club got the new year off to a great start at the Inveraray Inn on Wednesday January 10.
Following a warm welcome from chairman Roddy MacDiarmid, Fyne Folk featuring Jake MacKay on “moothie”, Sally Hall and Alex John MacLeod on fiddle and Agnes Liddell on keyboard started the evening off with a couple of pipe marches.
They were joined by John Kelly on guitar who stayed on stage and delighted the audience with a couple of songs.
Guest artists for the evening were fiddle maestro Archie MacAllister and Sileas Sinclair on accordion/keyboard.
They treated the audience to a great medley of sets – slow airs, pipe marches, reels and some of Archie’s compositions, all accompanied by Sileas on keyboard – most sympathetically for the slow airs and with such nimble dexterity for the rousing reels.
The second half got under way with Jake on moothie, accompanied by Agnes with Gaelic waltz tunes and a set of jigs.
Next on stage was accordionist Donnie MacCorquodale, accompanied by his sister Marie on keyboard, with well known pipe marches followed by a set of reels. It was great to have these talented youngsters back again.
Archie and Sileas then played for the remainder of the evening. They did this in style with Sileas on accordion for most of the sets. They were given rapturous applause by an appreciative audience.
The evening was brought to a close with a good stramash. The chairman thanked all the musicians for their superb music.
Next week, the club welcomes back the ever popular Hector McFadyen from Oban and his trio.
