Young shinty players have a ball in Fort William
Young shinty players from across Mid Argyll showed great sportsmanship and competitive spirit, while gaining valuable competition experience playing against the top teams in Scotland, when they took part in the recent Ferguson Transport and Shipping National Indoor Shinty finals in Fort William.
The event, which brought together more than 150 young shinty players, included two teams from Inveraray Primary
School – a young P1-5 team in the P4/5 section and their P6/7 team.
Neil Campbell told us: “Both teams unfortunately went out of the competition after the league stages.
“However, the children competed well and enjoyed their day.
“Congratulations to Hilton Primary School for winning the P4/5 section and to Caol Primary School for winning the P6/7 section.”
Kyles Athletic Shinty Club P5/4 and P6/7 teams also took part in the event.
A spokesperson for the team said on their Facebook page: “The P6/7s won two games in their group, but didn’t really get going.
“The P5/4s on the other hand were on fire, topping their league group and scoring an impressive 23 goals in five games. Archie, between the sticks, with some outstanding saves and a solid defence saw them comfortably into the semi-final.
“It wasn’t to be for our team though, getting beat 4-3 by the last strike of the ball saw Tighnabruaich exit the competition.
“The whole team should be so proud of their performances and the fantastic shinty they played as a team. Well done to everyone one of them and great work from coaches Thomas Whyte and Ethan Kerr.
“Congratulations to Hilton Primary School (P4/5) and Caol Primary School (P6/7) who were crowned Ferguson Transport & Shipping National Shinty Champions.”
