Tayvallich triumph

On Thursday February 22, Tayvallich bowling club retained the Marie Douglas Trophy by beating Lochgilphead 105 points to 95.

Tayvallich were in arrears by six points at the end of the first leg in December but dug deep and fought back to win.

Tayvallich won the trophy in 2020, which was the last time the trophy was played for due to Covid.

With 20 qualifying Sundays behind the players, the top six finalists now play three rounds with the best two scores counting, writes Iain McGlynn.

There were five players vying for the fifth and sixth final spots, with Chris Macintosh producing his best round to leap four spots and into fifth with a win. He was nearest the pin at the 7th hole, won the sweep and, along with his partner Keith Cowan, he also won the doubles trophy.

Keith had just won the singles semi final and will try to make it into history in a match with Eddie Shaw for the singles trophy. Good luck to both.

Tom Campbell narrowly lost to Keith in the semi final but was nearest the pin at the 9th hole to give him some joy.

Ross Sinclair won the league for the 15th time and will be the favourite for the title. Captain Iain MacInnes was second overall with Eddie Shaw third.

Donald Carmichael, Chris MacIntosh and Iain McGlynn round out the top six spots.

All the other players will contest the highly coveted Duffers Derby, which is actually the biggest trophy and is always close at the finish.

Thank you to the caterers, Raymond Flannigan, David, Donald and David who do a great job looking after the course, and Ross “Sevy” Sinclair.
