Invitation to support Inveraray Foodshare

-

People are being invited to find out how they can support and benefit from the Inveraray Foodshare initiative tomorrow (Saturday).

The initiative is helping people to make ends meet during the cost-of-living crisis.

A stock of non-perishable food is available in the church hall on Main Street. People can help themselves to items which allow them to feed their families when times are tight.

Parish Church is hosting a food drive in Inveraray Church Hall from 11am-2pm tomorrow (Saturday March 9).

Rev Dorothy Wallace said: “Rural poverty is a hidden problem. Too many people think there is no such thing. But it is a real issue when there are no budget shops such as Aldi, Primark or Asda to buy cheap children’s clothing.

“It can be difficult for people to make ends meet when they are coming to the end of the week or month.”

The foodshare is open every Saturday and Monday from 11am-2pm. Anyone who brings a donation along tomorrow will be treated to tea, coffee and cake. Donations of non-perishable foods are welcomed. Suggested donations include soups, sauces, beans, honey, tea, coffee, tinned meat and rice pudding to name a few.

Lizzie Brayshaw, the newest member of the mission committee, is running the foodshare drive on Saturday.

She said: “We hope this will not only bring in donations for the foodshare, but remind people to support it when they can and that it is there for when they need it.

“We also hope to attract a few volunteers for the project.”

Next, the mission committee will carry out a survey of the foodshare to ensure that the people who need it most are getting the maximum benefit. The Rev Dorothy Wallace and Lizzie Brayshaw will be waiting to welcome you.
