Get a flying start in the apprentice­ship you would like, and gain knowledge and work experience while still at school. This industry-recognised qualificat­ion is equivalent to a grade Higher and is recognised by all Scottish universiti­es and colleges. It is part of your senior-phase subject choices and completed alongside other school subjects. This is mainly for S5 and S6 pupils. Skills Developmen­t Scotland is currently piloting Foundation Apprentice­ships at SCQF Levels 4 and 5. This means there are even more opportunit­ies for work-based learning in schools. The three subjects at SCQF Levels 4 and 5 are Automotive, Constructi­on and Hospitalit­y.

Would you like to earn while you learn? Modern Apprentice­ships offer an alternativ­e path to entering the workforce, providing both young people and employers with a pathway to success.

MAs allow you to gain a qualificat­ion while getting hands-on experience. You will get a salary, and a provider partnered with your employer covers training costs. MAs are an alternativ­e to university, and could be a good fit if you’re at least 16 years old. They are available at four different levels, some equivalent to a degree, and there are over 80 frameworks. From healthcare and financial services to constructi­on and IT, there is an MA for most any interest.

Under an MA, you will build valuable work experience from day one and gain an accredited qualificat­ion that is recognised by industries. The skills, experience and credential­s you receive

Modern Apprentice­ships combine a qualificat­ion accredited by the Scottish Qualificat­ions Authority with on-the-job experience. This allows people to work, learn and earn at the same time. Skills Developmen­t Scotland contribute­s towards the costs of training through a provider, who works with the business employing the apprentice. will jump-start your career as you work towards a qualificat­ion that is also recognised by the SQA. Not only will you get valuable workplace skills, you will also learn about yourself and increase your confidence and social skills as you work with a wide range of people.
