The Young Person’s Guarantee
The DYW programme in Argyll & Bute has been a part of Scotland’s curriculum since 2014, but with the recent addition in 2021 of four School Coordinators in the council, more area students and employers than ever are able to take advantage of DYW’s initiatives. DYW works with keen students, as well as those who might be struggling in the classroom, or those who have different interests.
A six-person team connects local employers with schools to help young people develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the world of work. Any student can access DYW services by talking to the guidance staff at his or her school. Then the area coordinator will work with the school and potential employers to match the young person’s interests and the needs of the business.

The Young Person’s Guarantee (YPG) initiative engages with local schools and connects businesses with young people to create inclusive and fair work experience opportunities through jobs, apprenticeships and training.
This framework has been designed to enable employers from all sectors - small, medium and large - to consider how they can support the Young Person’s Guarantee. The support is built around five key areas:
1. To prepare young people for the world of work
2. To help all young people achieve their potential
3. To invest in a skilled workforce
4. To create jobs, volunteering and training opportunities
5. To create an inclusive and fair workplace.
Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Argyll and Bute connects local employers with education so young people develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the world of work. It is an employer led initiative preparing young people for their futures, while helping build a sustainable workforce.
