Lochgilphead nursery gets behind marathon challenge
Riverside Rascals nursery in Lochgilphead is getting behind local man Scott McMillan’s London Marathon run to support the MS Centre.
The centre, which provides support to people in Mid Argyll with a range of life-altering conditions including multiple sclerosis, is currently in the midst of a year of fundraising. Competition for the grants required to operate the centre has never been so fierce – and the community is rising to the challenge to help keep the doors open.
Scott is running the London Marathon for the centre on Sunday April 21, and while he has run marathons before, this is his biggest challenge yet as he pushes himself to achieve personal best of under three hours and 34 minutes.
Scott’s own JustGiving page is currently sitting at over £2,800, providing him with even more motivation to succeed.
He said: “I have close friends who run the centre and who do such amazing work in the community and have been directly affected by this condition.
“Their passion to help others in need is inspiring so let’s help the centre by raising as much money and awareness as we can.
“The centre is also getting into the spirit of things by organising events leading up to the race day so look out for updates.”
Riverside Rascals are getting behind Scott and have taken on their own 26-day challenge in the runup to the marathon, to match the miles he will cover. Activities range from 26 star jumps, catching a ball 26 times, to reading or sharing a book for 26 minutes.
Emma Penman, who works at the nursery, said: “We have 26 different activities for 26 days that involve doing something 26 times or for 2.6 minutes, leading up to Scott running the London Marathon for the MS Centre.
“We are doing this to show our support, but also to see if we can raise a little money ourselves for the charity.
“Our parents have been given the activities over the Easter holidays and we hope that they will keep going until we are back at nursery.”
A recent coffee morning in Tayvallich, organised by local lady Libby McDonald, also raised £1,335 for the centre.
Karen McCurry, centre manager, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to Libby and all her helpers, and to Scott, the Riverside Rascals and everyone else who have been so supportive.”
