Inveraray Accordion and Fiddle Club welcomes guest artists

-

The Inveraray and District Accordion and Fiddle Club met in the Inveraray Inn on Wednesday March 13. Chairman Roddy MacDiarmid welcomed everyone.

Supporting players were thin on the ground that evening, but stalwarts Fyne Folk – Jake MacKay, Sally Hall and Alex John MacLeod on fiddle and Agnes Liddell on keyboard – delighted the audience with their selections and were joined by John Kelly on guitar.

This was followed by Jake on “moothie”, accompanied by Agnes, with a nice medley of sets and to finish off the “locals” spot, John sang a couple of well known songs.

The guest artists were the Iain Cathcart Trio – with Iain on accordion, Ian Anderson on keyboard and Andrew Barrie on drums.

They played a well-rehearsed programme with many of the favourite waltzes, pipe marches, jigs, polkas and reels.

The second half got underway with more of the same and then Iain and Co played for the remainder of the evening and, with Iain’s Islay connections, he finished his programme with some lovely Gaelic waltz tunes – much to the delight of several Ileachs in the audience.

The chairman thanked the supporting players for all their contributions and the guest artists for their excellent music.

For the grand finale of the season the club welcomes, for the first time, the Sandy Nixon Trio from Ayrshire on Monday April 15 (note this different from the usual Wednesday evening date).
