Road closure at Glen Kinglas planned
Resurfacing work on A83 in Lochgilphead delayed a week
Work to improve the A83 through Lochgilphead from Cossack Street to Colchester Square has been pushed back to Sunday (April 28).
The work, involving resurfacing and refreshing road markings, will start on Sunday at 5pm and finish by Friday May 10 at 2am. There will be no works during the May Bank Holiday weekend between Friday May 3 and Monday May 6.
The work will involve lane closures and traffic lights with a convoy system to manage traffic. Parking restrictions will also be in force during the period of work.
Parking on the A83 from Cossack Street to Argyll Street will be restricted from 4pm to 5am each work night, except from Friday May 3 at 5am to Tuesday May 7 at 4pm.
The traffic management is necessary to allow BEAR
workers to complete the project safely, as well as to protect the public.
Outside work times the road will be open, but there will be a speed limit of 30mph.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s north-west representative, said: “We are refreshing the A83 in Lochgilphead to give road users a better experience. Our team will work hard to finish the scheme safely and swiftly, and we’re grateful to the community and drivers for their patience.”
Transport Scotland is planning road safety work the A83 at Glen Kinglas (Butter Bridge) next month that will include an overnight road closure with amnesties and diversion on Monday May 6, between 10pm and 4am. The improvements involve installing new safety barriers.
To enable these improvements and protect road users and workers, the A83 will be closed in both directions at
the work site between 10pm and 4am. There will be amnesties where motorists will be escorted through the work site at midnight and 2am. It is recommended that drivers arrive for these amnesties in good time to ensure access. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A82, A85 and A819.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s north-west representative, said: “We understand that road closures can be frustrating for motorists, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused by these essential safety improvements.
“These new safety barriers will help to protect drivers and ensure the continued safe operation of the A83. We’ve scheduled the work overnight to minimise disruption, and we’ll be working hard to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.”
