Triathlon open for entries

-

The MacQueen Bros Mid Argyll Sprint Triathlon is now open for entries and is offering an extra incentive to sign up early for this year’s challenge.

Based at MACPool in Lochgilphead, participants can sign up now and take advantage of a “double” discount for this year’s event on Sunday September 29.

Organised by Mid Argyll Triathlon and Cycle Club, the event offers a challenge within Mid Argyll’s stunning landscapes. Starting with a 500-metre swim in the recently refurbished MACPool, participants then head outside and on to the 19km circular road cycle route that crams in spectacular and historical scenery on almost every turn.

Passing through Cairnbaan, the route heads along the road to Bellanoch, then out across the pan flat road of the Great Moss, turning right at the cross roads and onto Drimvore, returning back to MACPool via the main road.

Once the cycle’s complete, it’s a 6.5km flat run along the banks of the majestic Crinan Canal to Ardrishaig and back.

“We’d love to see more people take up the challenge of triathlon, especially from our local community,” said Sarah Griffin, race director for this year’s event.

“That’s why as well as the early bird discount until May 31, we’re offering an extra £5 discount by using the code MAT2024. With five months to train and the weather improving, what’s not to love about this fantastic spring offer?

“The race is an annual event in the Mid Argyll sports calendar and draws in people from around the country, as well as being a first triathlon for many locals.

“Advice and support are always available on the day for those new to triathlon, and the relaxed atmosphere makes it ideal for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Participants are rewarded with great memories, a goodie bag and on occasion a sun tan.

“The event offers places for individuals and teams, so if your family, friends or colleagues are looking for a team challenge we can accommodate that option as well.”

Entry for this year’s MacQueen Bros Mid Argyll Sprint Triathlon is via EntryCentral www.entrycentral.com/ MidArgyll2024 and more information can be found on the Mid Argyll Triathlon and Cycle Club webpage www.midargylltriclub.co.uk/midargylltriathlon.asp or midargylltriathlon@gmail.com.

The event cannot happen without the support of local businesses and community. The club is so grateful to sponsors MacQueen Bros, MacLeod Construction, Midton, Riverside Garage, MACpool, Scottish Canals and Argyll and Bute Council.

Mid Argyll Triathlon and Cycle Club is a thriving local club with a broad membership of triathlon enthusiasts and novices in all three disciplines – swimming, biking and running.

As well as active social events throughout the year, it organises training in the run-up to the triathlon, especially helpful for those taking part for the first time.

The club AGM is tonight (Friday April 26) at 7pm in the Egg Shed, Ardrishaig.
