Tip 4: Single subject
The tone and colour shift that is associated with vast distances can be applied to a single, foreshortened subject To further emphasise the receding nature of a foreshortened subject, tricks of tone and colour shift can be employed, even when no such effect could be plausibly observed.
While accurate observation of a foreshortened subject might help to emphasise depth through the diminishing scale of its distant parts, the principles of atmospheric perspective can go beyond the observed qualities to create a more powerful illusion of space in the image.
