WALTER LANGLEY
25 May to 1 October
Although dubbed the ‘pioneer of the Newlyn School’, Walter Langley did not originally benefit from the movement’s burgeoning fame in the 1880s. This was partly because of his working-class origins (and subjects), and partly because he painted in watercolour, rather than the more prestigious medium of oils.
Thankfully his mastery of the medium is recognised today, with this retrospective of his large-scale works of everyday fishing scenes going on show to celebrate the centenary of his death.
