FIRST TIME RHS EXHIBITOR

Why botanical art? A friend of mine wanted some moral support to attend local art classes at a community centre in Bunbury, Western Australia. My friend lasted one class and never returned but I continued. This provided a great opportunity to try di›erent media. From these classes, I realised detail was my thing. Mediums: Watercolour because it often brings out the best in “owers. I prefer to work with a dry brush when working with this medium because I nd I have better control of the application of colour. Favourite owers or plants to paint or draw? Nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruit, which probably comes from being a keen vegetable grower. I particularly like the range and diversity of seed pods found in native Australian plants. How long do they take? The triptychs that I am currently working on take anywhere between six and 12 months to complete. I have a part-time job so I t in drawing where I can. I work with magni ers clipped onto my glasses to try to get in as much detail as possible. The importance of the RHS show: To be able to exhibit work, artists must rst submit their work for review, so the bar is set high. I was very excited just to pass the review stage so being given the chance to exhibit is a major highlight in my artistic career.
