FIRST TIME RHS EXHIBITOR
Why botanical art? It was my interest in plants through garden design that made me want to start drawing and painting again. In 2013 I joined a local botanical painting group. By 2015 I had entered my rst paintings into the SBA (Society of Botanical Art) exhibition and by 2019 I had become an SBA Fellow member Mediums: For my botanical work, watercolour seems to come naturally. I’m also keen to try out coloured pencil, explore pen and ink again, and improve my skills with vellum. Favourite ower or plant to draw: Fading plants, autumn colours and seed heads. I also really enjoyed painting the British wildowers I chose for my RHS theme. I’d like to try my hand at many ower species in the future which I haven’t had time to do up until now. How long do they take? I work slowly, building up my paintings in layers and adding in the nest details. Some of them can take up to two months, others two to three weeks depending on the complexity. All my work is very detailed and I try to make it as true to life as possible. The importance of the RHS show: It is a great privilege to be accepted to exhibit. I have worked for ve years to complete this body of work; researching, sourcing, studying in the eld, learning about botany and composing my paintings. Everything was a new learning curve for me as I had very little knowledge of British wildowers when I began.
