We can often see how artists are using and pushing colour for painting e ects.

In this painting by William Merritt Chase, he has really played with the colour notes. I wonder if the umbrellas were really red and yellow, or if he painted them like this to balance with the blues. The clothing of the people enjoying the beach are also white, to balance with the clouds with accents of yellow and red like the umbrellas. He has simplified the colour palette to the three primary colours, so evenly balanced.
