FIRST MARKS

I made my first marks with my size 9 brush, using some of my extreme dark colours to establish that end of the tonal range as early as possible. As well as cool dark greens, I used some warm dark browns in shady areas. I wanted to make the early marks vigorous, to retain some of the urgency of the plein air piece. Although abstract at this stage, there was already a suggestion of branches and part of the canal bank.
