BUILDING THE FOREGROUND

At this stage I felt the painting needed more work in the foreground, especially in the water as it led up to the boat. I added soft horizontal smears of blue and lilac to reflect the sky, every now and then adding a sharp horizontal line to show a ripple. I added some points of light around the trees and in the plant life in the foreground. Throughout the painting I was trying to strike a happy balance between soft fuzzy patches and sharp stabs of colour.
