Artists & Illustrators

There is so much to celebrate…

-

…about being part of the thriving art world and the September issue of Artists & Illustrators showcases many of them, whether we are introducing you to professional artists and their paintings or giving advice on how to improve your own artwork.

As he turns 50, Adebanji Alade, The One Show’s Artist in Residence, shares with us ‚ve signi‚cant paintings of his career to date. We also catch up with Tom Croft, the artist behind the Portraits for the NHS Heroes movement. He talks about his love of painting portraits whilst showing us his rather unusual paint palette; I don’t think you will have seen one like it!

We also speak to two very diŠerent, yet equally talented, artists about their art practise. Rory Hancock works with oils to create his realist artwork inspired by fashion magazines and editorials. Meanwhile, cover artist Tamsin Dearing is hooked on drawing portraits of people and animals in graphite, soft pastel and coloured pencil.

Jake Spicer is back with an informative ‚ve-part coloured pencil series where he makes use of Derwent’s revolutionary Lightfast coloured pencils. I’m pleased to reveal that you – and three other readers – can win one of their 72 pencil tin sets in this month’s prize draw. Then, Penel Kirk shows you how to paint an endangered brown hare in mixed media but if you’re after something with a little more drama, Greg Mason shows you how he captured a moody Maldives seascape in oils.

In this huge array of work, featuring many diŠerent subjects and mediums, I’m sure you’ll be inspired to put paint to paper. Enjoy exploring the possibilities.
