FOCAL POINT

Have a clear idea what your focal point is, both in terms of subject and paint handling. It can be the pathway or the trees, and in terms of paint it can be the effects of light, the paint handling, the contrast between the values, or the colours. It can be about colour harmonies or complimentary colours. Be aware of what it is at the start of your painting. You might change your mind, but you don’t want to be chasing around after lots of different ideas and effects.
