Thoroughly good evening walk

-

Hanbury and Draycott WI

TUESDAY, August 21 turned out to be a warm, sunny evening – just right for a walk and a barbecue with friends.

I’m not sure how many members of Hanbury and Draycott WI took part but with their family and friends, we made a good crowd.

Starting at Villa Farm, we walked a short way along Anslow Road, then turned off onto a well-marked footpath.

Those at the front knew where they were heading and the rest of us just followed.

We walked across fields of stubble and through acres of maize, much taller than us.

We passed through some delightful woodland before reaching the road leading to Hanbury Park Farm, where Mary Brown and family were waiting with a very welcome drink of fizz or orange juice for everyone.

We enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of Mary’s garden and made friends with her equine neighbours before taking a shorter route back across more fields and enjoying the beautiful sunset as we walked up Anslow Road.

While we had been walking, others had been busy preparing the barbecue.

Chairs and tables were set out on Kath Brough’s immaculate lawn, nicely recovered from the recent drought. Michael Brough and Len Smith were busy at the barbecues while Pauline Smith and Kath Smith prepared the rolls.

A thoroughly good evening came to a reluctant end as darkness fell and bats were busy flitting around our heads.

Thank you to all who opened their gardens, planned the walk, and bought and cooked the food.

We next meet on Tuesday, September 18, when Cathy Fernie will be telling us all about complementary therapies for health and wellbeing and the competition is for your favourite remedy.

All ladies are welcome to join us at 7.30pm in Hanbury Memorial Hall.
