20 trainee teachers sought to boost flagship alliance
TEACHERS are being sought in Ashbourne as a recruitment drive for the area’s new teaching alliance which gets underway next month.
The Ashbourne Dove Valley Teaching School Alliance is offering 20 places for 2019 to trainee teachers from Tuesday, October 16, and the new recruits will be working in primary schools at the same time as studying at the University of Derby.
Last September saw the alliance’s first year of School Direct Primary Teacher Training successfully send 10 trainees through the programme, and all the new teachers completed the course and are now working in primary schools.
The trainees recruited last year were given on-the-job training in the classrooms of the alliance’s network of primary schools, which include Osmaston, Ashbourne Hilltop, St Oswald’s, Bradley, Brailsford, Kirk Ireton, Fitzherbert, Norbury, Marston Montgomery, Long Lane, Ashbourne Primary, Kniveton, Ilam, Kirk Langley and Brassington. Trainees can choose to specialise in teaching primary ages three to seven, or children aged from five to 11.
The Dove Valley Teaching School Alliance’s director Susan Farr said: “I am very proud of all our trainees and their achievements.
“Their success and future employment is due to the outstanding mentors in the primaries who have been true experts in fully preparing our trainees for the practical demands of primary teaching.
“I would also like to thank all the Headteachers for supporting the Ashbourne Dove Valley Teaching School Alliance, by generously accommodating us with excellent placements.”
The new academic year looks set to be another success for the alliance, with a new intake of 20 new trainees starting their course in September and new primary schools have signed up to the partnership; Parwich and Doveridge, along with schools in Swadlincote, Burton-on-trent, Matlock, Stokeon-trent and Etwall.
