Name: Mabel Bennett

Age: Two and-a-half

Lives: Mostly on the front steps of Eliza Bennett Interiors

Married? No

Kids? None

About you: Most Ashbornians will know that I am a pretty relaxed girl. I spend most of my day on the steps of our showroom watching the world go by. I might look like I’m sad, but actually I’m really happy.

If I had to pick out my most quirky feature, I think it would be my love for shoes. But not wearing, strictly eating!

Three things you like: Tummy tickles, food, usually whatever my Mum, Sarah is eating at that moment (I’m not too picky!) and walks. Although I have pretty short legs, so I can’t go too fast, or too far!

Three things you dislike: Nettles, cats and dry dog food (yuk!)

Are you an Up’ard or a Down’ard? Up’ard. Every time!

Born and bred: People might not know this, as I’ve lost my accent, but I’m actually from Liverpool

Family matters: I have the best Mum ever. She’s called Sarah and is the owner of Eliza Bennett Interiors. Mum brings me to work with her every day, she gives me treats, walks and always makes sure that I’m tucked up in my bed at night! My Dad is Adam and he takes me for walks too but gets told off by Mum often for getting me too excited. I like eating his shoes the most! Work-wise: I have a challenging but very rewarding job. My main duty is to sit on the step and look cute. I think I’m pretty good at this. My 36 consecutive employee of the month awards are testament to this.

What are you best at? Sleeping, looking cute and being the face of Eliza Bennett Interiors. I’m popular with the customers, someone even called the showroom recently and asked if I was working that day as she wanted to bring her daughter in to see me.

Your ideal holiday: I get lots of opportunity to relax in my day job, so maybe an action holiday. I also love a good stretch, so maybe a Yoga retreat? But if I could design my perfect holiday, it would include an on-site masseuse, mainly for tummy rubs and tickles and a chef that would cook me steak, at least four times a day!

Your favourite food: This is a tough one, but I have to say I do love a good chicken curry. Only joking, it is of course a juicy rump steak. But I’m watching my waistline.

Who inspires you? We all love Lassie, what he did for the dog community will always be remembered. But for me, it has to be the Churchill dog from the telly.

If you ruled the world, what is the one thing you would change? I’d bring in mandatory nap times; 8am, 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm. I think the world would be a better place.

What would it say on your epitaph? Mabel; she loved life, tummy tickles and eating. In that order.
