Under-16s are still unbeaten

-

ASHBOURNE Aztecs stretched their unbeaten start to the season to five games in Derby City League Under-16 Division Two as they won 8-0 away to Belper Town.

It took a while for Aztecs to settle on a smaller pitch than they are used to but they soon got their short passing game going.

James Donlan was the first provider, with a through ball to Alex Cheetham, who latched on to it and opened the scoring.

Tyler Jackson put away the second and Donlan tapped in the third.

Jayden Clamp was unlucky not to get the fourth when his long-range shot hit the bar.

Josh Wheeldon also had a couple of good chances but both shots went just wide.

It was 3-0 at half-time and Aztecs had not given Belper a sniff, thanks to good defensive play from Adam Leigh, Regan Ford, Leo Cooper and Jack Green.

In the second half, Ford pushed forward and scored with a shot just over the Belper keeper’s head.

Harry Vinall headed in the fifth and Tom Wain, who usually plays in defence, got the sixth.

Second half keeper Jack Thomas pulled off a couple of good saves to keep the clean sheet intact but it was Jackson, with a long-range shot, and Clamp with the final goal who put the game to bed.

Aztecs are top of their division, all other teams having lost at least once. AZTECS UNDER-16S: Tyler Burton, Tyler Jackson, Jayden Clamp, James Donlan, Alex Cheetham, Regan Ford, Adam Leigh, Leo Cooper, Jack Green, Jack Banks, Harry Vinall, Tom Wain, Jack Thomas, Josh Wheeldon.
