Fine first halves lead to big wins
SIX goals ahead by half-time, Ashbourne Aztecs Under-14s ran out 7-2 winners at home to Repton Casuals.
They were on the front foot from the start and Logan Cuthbert put them ahead with a neat finish after a clever build-up.
Winger Freddie Murphy scored four goals in the first half, along with one for the returning Luke Ford.
Aztecs rested a few players in the second half and gave others the chance to try different positions. Callum Lemon scored their only goal of the half with a tidy lob and Repton managed to pull two back.
UNDER-14S: F Cooper, D Pattinson, W Gerrard, N Rodgers, D Burton, W Heron, A Tabony, T Carolan, F Murphy, C Lemon, L Cuthbert. Subs: L Ford, Z Bailey, O Smith and M Morrison.
AZTECS Juniors under-13s romped to a 7-0 half-time lead before polishing off Gad Khalsa 10-1.
Keeping their shape and showing good awareness of space was key for the Ashbourne team as Theo Allen opened the scoring early in the game, quickly followed by a second from Oscar Robinson.
Allen soon completed his hat-trick, then added a fourth goal and there were goals for Kieran Clarke and Josh Wright before the break.
To their credit, Khalsa came out fighting after the break and gave the Aztecs’ defence some work to do but they were equal to the task and Clarke, Wright and Fred Garrett added further goals.
Khalsa, whose goalkeeper was outstanding under relentless pressure, scored a consolation with a neat lob over Aztecs keeper Oliver Colbourne.
Louis De’sousa was named man of the match for his excellent positioning and mopping up the ball when Khalsa attacked.
UNDER-13S: Louis De’sousa, Theo Allen, James Lawton, Kieran Clarke, Mackenzie James, Alfred Scott, Henry Morton, Fred Garrett, Oscar Robinson, Josh Wright, Oliver Coulbourne, Charlie Taylor.
AZTECS Under-12 Cougars were another team to dominate in the first half, as they raced to an 8-0 lead away to Spondon Dynamo Prims, Dejvid Sidders scoring three, man-of-thematch Josh Menaj two and further goals coming from Lucas Shirtcliffe, Declan Walwyn and Joe Stelfox.
Oliver Love scored the only goal of the second half as Aztecs relaxed and changed positions.
AZTECS Pumas under-10s enjoyed an even non-competitive game away to Allestree Juniors Valencia.
Goalkeeper Luca Montgomery had a particularly good game and, generally, the boys are getting stronger with each game, taking their training on to the pitch. Finley Wood scored for them.
UNDER-10S: Luca Montgomery, Aidan Brown, Harry Lovatt, Ben Stubbs, Jack Tinker, Finley Wood, Orion Joseph-gabriel, Joseph Reeks, Rylee Hayes, Frazer Else.
Josh Menaj was the under12s’ man of the match.
