Sail into a land of make-believe with Peter Pan at Tissington
TISSINGTON Hall has been transformed into Neverland, for this year’s Christmas-tide public openings.
The 16th-century home of the Fitzherbert family has once again been decorated with a fairytale theme – this year focusing on the novels of Peter Pan author JM Barrie.
Visitors will be able to follow Peter through the window into Neverland with its ticking Croc and naughty fairy.
They can dine with the captain and sail into a festive world of make-believe.
Designer David Walker, who runs the estate village’s Edward & Vintage Sweet shop, has previously turned the hall into a Dickensian wonderland with Tales of Enchantment – and last year he brought to life the tale of Beauty and the Beast, complete with the Beast’s enormous dining table in the billiard room .
This year David has spent the summer dreaming of the scenes from JM Barrie’s 1911 novel Peter and Wendy.
As guests enter the Main Hall the scene is Neverland, lined with trees, Wendy’s house, Peter’s chair and the Jolly Roger at the end of the hall, with dry ice.
From there the story continues up the red stairs into the East Drawing room, set with Peter’s shadow and a sewing table all decorated for Christmas.
There are four further rooms dressed for Christmas and Tissington welcomes groups and societies to visit the decorations from Monday until Friday until Friday, November 30.
All the other are open in attractions the village with Herbert’s Fine English Tearooms open all day for refreshments, as well as the candle shop On a Wick, Edward’s Sweetshop and newly-opened Andrew Holmes Butchery. The Hall is open for visitors on the weekends of November 24 and 25, and again on December 1 and 2, from 11am until 3pm. l To find out more call 01335 352200 or email events@tissingtonhall.co.uk
