Colwell and Barrie among winners at AGC
ASHBOURNE Golf Club’s annual presentation evening saw Anne Colwell and Dave Barrie Jr carry off the top prizes for finishing top of the Order of Merit lists this season.
Ladies’ prizes were presented by captain Gill Lockwood.
Colwell collected the Farmer Shield for topping the Order of Merit for the first time after a very consistent season.
Other notable winners were Lisa Gregory, who lifted the Champions’ Trophy, the Toye Trophy and the ladies’ matchplay knockout.
Colwell won the Rosebowl, Anne Bourne the Cubitt Cup and Anne Weaver the Sly Cup.
Club captain Alan Mudie presented the men’s prizes.
Senior prizes were awarded to Kevin Blissett, who lifted the Red Eye Trophy for the best performance over the senior captain’s away weekend. The Captain’s Shield was won by Terry Hunt and the Malcolm Simpson Cup by Hugh Devine.
Among the main men’s prizes, the Rosebowl went to Andrew Lewsley and the Job Scratch Cup to Simon Grifitths, with Barrie collecting the Order of Merit trophy.
Club president Bernard Bembridge presented the prestigious President’s Putter to first-time winner Tony East, who has been a member of the club for many years and beat previous winner Nick Prince in a very tight final.
Mudie closed the presentation with a final thanks to John Taylor, who has worked so hard as handicap secretary over the year.
