GOOD BREWS FOR TOWN
A NEW microbrewery which has set up on a working farm near Ashbourne will be inviting people to try their tipples at a special launch this weekend.
Farmers Jen Lomas and Ian Mauracheea have been supplying the area’s pubs with brews from their new venture, Aldwark Artisan Ales, which saw the couple transform their milking parlour into a brewery
Former QEGS pupil Jen, and chemist, Ian, brew their unique blend of ales using water from their own borehole filters thorough the limestone hills of the Peak District.
Ian has been able to apply his extensive knowledge to the brewing process to create a unique range of beers including “Aldwark Pale” and “Nostrum Amber”.
Jen said: “Ian and I have both been passionate about brewing quality ales and to sustain our farming life here in Alwark, and the opportunity to launch the brewery is a dream come true for both of us.
“We are creating captivating beers that are full of flavour.
“We are so excited about this venture which will focus on producing bottle-conditioned and cask beers.
“We are already supplying many local pubs, restaurants and micro pubs as well as Winster village shop, Maison du Biere in Ashbourne, Hartington stores, Wirksworth Farmers Market and other market stalls.”
The brewery was set up at their farm, near Brassington, with help from the Rural Development Programme’s Peak Leader grant.
Support also came from nearby neighbour Longcliffe Community Fund.
Councillor Ian Rose OBE, chairman of the Peak Leader Rural Development Programme said: “We are pleased to champion such a business.
“Innovative ideas to improve and add to our rural services can be delivered and this is a perfect example of such innovation.”
The family-run brewery will launch to the public on Saturday from noon at Lydgate Farm in Aldwark.
The day’s activities will include beer tasting, brewery tours, an opportunity to buy bottles to take home and pizzas and mince pies.
