Drink-drive warning

-

POLICE will be naming every drinkdriver caught in December across Derbyshire.

Officers hope naming and shaming offenders will deter motorists from driving home under the influence of alcohol after Christmas parties.

Drivers caught having taken drugs will also be targeted. Inspector Justin Brown, who leads Derbyshire’s roads policing unit, said: “Our message is simple. If you are having even one drink, do not drive. If you take drugs, don’t drive.

“You don’t know how alcohol or controlled substances will affect your ability to react on the road.

“And to those who still think they are above the law and are happy to take the risk, please remember: we are looking for you, we will find you – and we will put you before the courts.

“You’ll face higher insurance and the possible loss of your licence, job – even your life and those of innocent people. Is it worth it?”

Matt Pickard, from the Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership, added: “At this time of the year it’s especially important not to take chances.”
