● Some £350,000 was to be spent on the road between Fenny Bentley and Bakewell after engineers noticed the start of a major slippage down the hillside on a stretch of the road at Woodeaves. The road surface was said to be at a critical angle and it was only being supported by the vegetation on the bank. ● A wintry November day saw the first snow to fall in the autumn month since 1974, according to weather watcher Eric Wood, who reported it had been an exceptionally cold.
