Singers line up festive Candlelight Cracker
DERBYSHIRE Singers have announced details of their Christmas concert, which is due to take place in Matlock this month.
The Christmas Cracker by Candlelight will feature performances by The Thoresby Band, tenor Andrew Mackenzie-wicks and accompanist Eleanor Kornas.
Taking place on Saturday, December 15 at Highfields School in Matlock, the candlelit evening of musical entertainment will begin at 7pm.
Guests are invited to sit, eat and drink with friends at candle-lit tables while enjoying the musical performances.
Tenor Andrew Mackenziewicks has sung with the Derbyshire Singers on many occasions, as well as fitting in the odd engagement with Glyndebourne, English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Opera North and singing across the globe.
He will be entertaining listeners with a range of operatic and stage musical gems by Puccini, Gounod, Bernstein and Sullivan.
Meanwhile the awardwinning Thoresby Band competed as Midlands Area champions in the National Championships at the Albert Hall in 2016.
They are always a ‘hit’ at the cracker event, whether performing solo items or accompanying the Derbyshire Singers as they draw from their repertoire of seasonal music.
Piano accompaniment will once again be provided by Eleanor Kornas, who will be making a swift return after a performance of the Grieg Piano Concerto.
Organisers say there will be plenty of opportunity for guests to join in with some favourite songs and carols. Advance booking is essential for the evening, and booking forms are available online at www.derbyshiresingers.org or at Natural Choice in St John Street. Guests can bring their own food and drink, or a plated cold collation can be ordered at the time of booking. Tickets cannot be bought on the door.
