Sophie hits back

- BILLIARDS, DOMINOES

ASHBOURNE Ladies 2nds refused to throw in the towel against Buxton 1sts.

The home side led 3-0 at the break but Ashbourne came out fighting after in the second half and pulled a goal back through Sophie Eames.

Ashbourne’s Kathryn Snow saved a penalty flick, while at the other end Kate Cooper was denied when the visitors were awarded a penalty flick.

Buxton had the last word, scoring again to seal a 4-1 win.

Snow and Laura Burton were Ashbourne’s players of the match.

Ashbourne’s development team celebrated a 6-0 home win against Woodlands.

Helen Williams was one of only two adults in the mainly junior Ashbourne line-up and scored a hat-trick before the break, with Evie Beale, Saskia Wilson, Jaime Platt and Arabella King working well to create the openings.

Ashbourne continued to dominate in the second half and King scored following a determined run before Bella Mills made it 5-0 with a deflected shot.

Woodlands did create chances and strong tackles from Ellie Sampson and Olivia Ashmore, backed up by two great saves by Millie Dutton, ensured a clean sheet.

And Eleanor Tyler wrapped up the scoring for Ashbourne in the closing stages. DEFEATS for the top two meant only two points separate the top four teams in the Ashbourne & Dove Valley Billiards League.

The best break of the week was a 38 by John Heathcote of Mayfield B to beat Phil Hancock of Ellastone B.

Results: Mayfield A 1 Ellastone E 3, Mayfield B 3 Ellastone A 1, Mayfield B 4 Ellastone B 0, Mayfield C 3 Mayfield A 1.
