Remember changes to bin collection

-

DERBYSHIRE Dales District Council has issued a reminder of the changes to waste and recycling collections over the festive period.

Starting on Saturday, bin teams will collect earlier than usual from regular Tuesday properties. Christmas and New Year bank holidays mean collections for most residents will be a day later than usual over the festive fortnight.

The only exception is the Tuesday collection scheduled for Christmas Day, which will take place three days earlier.

The District Council’s contractor Serco will not be working Boxing Day but will collect usual Wednesday waste and recycling on Thursday December 27, working extra days on Saturdays December 22 and 29 plus January 5.

No additional household waste will be collected, so grey bin lids must be closed and homes on sack collection must put out no more than four bags.

A district council spokesman said: “Residents should limit the amount of household waste they put out for landfill, but we are always happy to take excess recycling.

“All we ask is that any additional material is left at the side of recycling containers, making sure it is easily identifiable and suitably contained.

“We recommend using transparent containers, such as stacker boxes, rather than black bags, so we can easily identify the contents, and ask that any excess card, paper and magazines are separated from other excess recycling.

Cardboard must be broken down into smaller pieces no wider than 0.5m to fit our trucks.” More information on excess recycling can be found at www.derbyshiredales.gov. uk/excessrecycling
