Time will fly by as ex-blue star Duncan tackles Beanstalk
DERBY Arena is currently running a festive spectacular this year as Derby LIVE invites everyone to enjoy some giant family fun this Christmas holidays.
Derby LIVE, Little Wolf Entertainment and an all-star cast have lined up for a traditional family pantomime with the classic adventure story of Jack and the Beanstalk, running until early January.
Following on from last year’s award-winning production of Beauty and the Beast, Derby LIVE and Derby-based producers Little Wolf Entertainment have joined forces once again to bring this year’s star-studded show featuring Duncan James - singer from Blue, West End performer and Hollyoaks actor as Jack, and winner of the Best Male Baddie in last year’s Great British Panto Awards, Lawrence Boothman as the super-villain, Cesspit.
Everyone’s favourite characters will be bought to life in this enchanting and tale that brings together sensational sets and costumes, comedy, live music from an in-house band and dance routines.
The villagers of Dappy Darley on the Derwent are under threat from a giant and the king has just raised all their taxes.
Poor young Jack has his head in the clouds and when he sells his beloved cow, Pat, for just a handful of beans, his Mum, Dame Trott (Derby’s own Morgan Brind) is furious and instantly throws the beans away.
When a well-meaning apprentice fairy casts a spell on the beans, Jack begins a huge adventure taking him to dizzying new heights.
A spokesman said: “After last year’s spectacular production Beauty and the Beast won Best Staging and Set at the Great British Pantomime Awards, Derby LIVE and Little Wolf Entertainment are delighted to return for 2018 with this brand new, giant-sized production. They boast, not without justification: “Featuring marvellous moosic, cowntless costumes, giant-sized jokes and an udderly ridiculous dame, Jack and the Beanstalk promises to be Derby LIVE’S most spectacular panto yet.”
Jack and the Beanstalk is on stage at Derby Arena until Saturday, January 5.
Tickets are priced from £11.50 with concessions, group, school and family tickets available.
