Clifton chair and skipper carry on
ROGER Jones will carry on as chairman and Alex Woolliscroft will continue as first team captain after both were re-elected at Clifton Cricket Club’s 2018 AGM.
The meeting provided an opportunity for members to reflect on a particularly successful season.
The first team earned promotion from Derbyshire County League Division One to the Premier Division after an exciting finale to the season.
By then, the second team had already put the James Harwood Cup in the trophy cabinet after winning the T20 knockout competition.
Clifton also successfully re-introduced their development team to league action in 2018, a young team helped out by a number of senior players holding their own in Division 10 South West.
Jones, who was often among the seniors in the third team, told the meeting the season had seen success at both junior and senior level and, just as importantly, there had been increased membership and voluntary activity off the field.
Financially, he said, the club had had a very positive year, with income streams from the bar, membership and sponsorship all increasing, and with social events also well attended.
Good progress was also being made with women’s and girls’ cricket.
Two new members, Paul Gerrard and Rob Archer, were voted on to the committee.
Others elected apart from Jones were Peter Harvey (secretary), Keith Wesley (treasurer), John Flower (president), Nick Webster, Stuart Blake, Steve Walwyn, Ali Blake and Philip Marsh.
Marsh will captain the seconds in 2019 and Walwyn the thirds.
