Lomas is sure AFC can turn season around

-

ASHBOURNE FC manager Adam Lomas says morale remains high at the club, despite a poor run of four straight league defeats in what has been a stop-start season.

The team’s last win in the Staffordshire County Senior League Premier Division came on October 13, when they beat Walsall Phoenix 4-0, but they have only played four times since then.

They are due to return to action on Saturday away to Foley Meir and then meet second-placed Leek CSOB at home on Saturday December 29.

“We haven’t played many games in the last couple of months and results have not really gone our way,” said Lomas.

“But morale is still high and we will bounce back from the negatives.”

One defeat outside the league that Lomas could take pride in was when they were beaten 3-0 by Clay Cross Town in the Derbyshire Senior Cup.

It was the highest level AFC had played at, against a team from the Central Midlands League who are now in the DSC semi-finals.

“We were beaten 3-0 but we did ourselves proud in the highest standard we have ever played,” said Lomas.

Lomas took over from Stuart Astbury as manager for this season, as a serious injury ruled him out of playing for a long spell, and has found looking after the team a real challenge.

“The season has had its up and downs and at the moment we’re in a rut with players unavailable most weeks but we will find our feet again and start to drum some results together,” he said.

“The passion is there as always but it’s just gelling together for 90 minutes, which will help us get back on track.”
