Hunt is on as inmate flees Sudbury jail

POLICE have issued a witness appeal after a prisoner absconded from Sudbury prison.

Mark Underwood, 36, was sentenced to 11 years behind bars in 2015 after being convicted at Leicester Crown Court of conspiracy to commit robbery, but he fled the open prison earlier this month.

Police warned members of the public not to approach him if he is seen and to get in touch with emergency services as soon as possible.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said: “We’re appealing for informatio­n after Mark Underwood, 36, absconded from the open prison on Sunday, December 16.

“He is described as white, with very short brown hair receding at the front.

“He has brown eyes and is 5ft 8ins tall and of slim build. He has a tattoo of a bulldog and a cross on his back.

“If you have seen Underwood, or know where he may be please do not approach him, instead contact us on 101, and quoting incident number 191 of December 16, or on Derbyshire Police website.”
