Volunteer cuts short-sighted
IT was saddening to read the decision by the Clinical Commissioning Groups to cut grants to the volunteer services in Ashbourne. I agree with Gill Geddes that this can only be seen as a short-sighted move that could spell trouble in the long term.
I don’t use any of the services myself, but I know of people that do and I’ve heard so many good things about the help and reassurance they bring.
To have to face these services being cut or lost altogether, just before Christmas, must have been very upsetting for people.
I have faith in Voluntary and Community Services Peaks and Dales to “make the best of a bad job”, but I realise their hands are tied.
The true impact of this short-term cost-cutting will be felt over the coming months next year and I hope nobody suffers as a result. Especially when the primary care services realise they can no longer cope with the knock-on effect. Mary Sutton Ashbourne
