Thorpe Cloud walker’s leg break

MOUNTAIN rescuers were called into action on the last day of the year to help a walker who fell on Thorpe Cloud.

The 47-year-old man, from Ilkeston, was out walking with his family when he stumbled and suffered a suspected fracture to his lower leg and ankle.

Derby Mountain Rescue Team were called out at 10am and gave the man pain relief before lowering him off the hill.

A spokesman for the volunteer-run rescue team said: “The team were called out at 10am this morning after a 47-year-old male from Ilkeston had fallen on Thorpe Cloud while out walking with his family.

“The man was treated by the team for a suspected fracture to his left lower leg and ankle.

“He was given pain relief and his leg was splinted before being lowered off the hill on the team stretcher with a rope Photograph by Derby Mountain Rescue Team system in place as a safety backup.

“He was then driven across the River Dove to the waiting land ambulance and handed over to the ambulance crew who took him to the Royal Derby Hospital for further treatment.”

The call-out on New Year’s Eve was the team’s 70th of the year – a record.
