● Peer of the realm, the 12th Mar­quis of Loth­ian, and farm­ing ex­pert Philip Binder were cho­sen to turn up the Shrove­tide balls in 1989. Lord Loth­ian had strong Der­byshire con­nec­tions, while Mr Binder was a con­sul­tant with Bagshaws Agri­cul­tural. Both said it was a great hon­our.

● A baby boom hit Peter Street in Ash­bourne with three new ar­rivals in only five days. And a fur­ther two were ex­pected to ar­rive in the 22-house street within a mat­ter of weeks.
