● Peer of the realm, the 12th Marquis of Lothian, and farming expert Philip Binder were chosen to turn up the Shrovetide balls in 1989. Lord Lothian had strong Derbyshire connections, while Mr Binder was a consultant with Bagshaws Agricultural. Both said it was a great honour.
● A baby boom hit Peter Street in Ashbourne with three new arrivals in only five days. And a further two were expected to arrive in the 22-house street within a matter of weeks.
