● ASH­BOURNE’S pop­u­la­tion had risen by only 200 be­tween 1951 and 1975, it emerged dur­ing the for­mu­la­tion of a new district plan. Some 200 homes had been con­structed at the top of the hill, so West Der­byshire District Coun­cil plan­ners con­cluded there would be no fore­see­able land de­mands for the rest of the decade.

● Re­cent flood­ing of the River Der­went high­lighted the folly of the Cars­ing­ton Reser­voir pro­posal, said cam­paign group the Hen­more Val­ley Preser­va­tion Trust.
