Un­der-16s drop points for first time but they’re still un­beaten

ASH­BOURNE Aztecs un­der-16s dropped points for the first time this sea­son when they re­turned to ac­tion with a 2-2 draw against Mick­leover RBL.

Tyler Jack­son and Alex Cheetham scored first-half goals for Aztecs but a string of chances went beg­ging in the sec­ond half.

Jack Green, Re­gan Ford, Adam Leigh, Leo Cooper and Jay­den Clamp played well in de­fence, de­spite some of them be­ing un­der the weather, but Mick­leover were able to get back on terms and take a point.

Aztecs will hope to re­gain their best form at home to GAD Khalsa on Sun- day.

ASH­BOURNE Aztecs Un­der-14s blew away the Christ­mas cob­webs in fine style with a 9-0 win over Ne­whall Tigers, de­spite miss­ing cap­tain Will Ger­rard, who was ruled out through ill­ness.

Stand-in cap­tain Fred­die Mur­phy thrived in his role, net­ting a hat-trick in­side the first 12 min­utes as Aztecs poured for­ward.

Their pass­ing was fast and ac­cu­rate and the goals kept com­ing, Will Heron fin­ish­ing smartly from a tight an­gle and Toby Carolan tuck­ing home neatly to give them a 5-0 cush­ion at half-time.

The pat­tern con­tin­ued af­ter the break and Carolan soon bagged his sec­ond be­fore Mur­phy scored his fourth. The scor­ing was rounded off by Cal­lum Lemon and Lo­gan Cuth­bert get­ting goals their per­for­mances de­served.

AZTECS Un­der-13 Ju­niors re­cov­ered from the jolt of con­ced­ing a first­minute goal to run out 7-3 win­ners away to Mick­leover Sports Rangers.

They soon set­tled and equalised when Thomas Ma­son volleyed in a cor­ner from Theo Allen.

The duo soon com­bined again, Ma­son’s through ball send­ing Allen away to score.

Mick­leover hit back to equalise but Mackenzie James scored with a free kick right on half-time to put Aztecs 3-2 up.

At the break, Ash­bourne switched keep­ers, Ma­son tak­ing over to al­low Os­car Robin­son a run on the left wing, where he cov­ered plenty of ground and scored a goal.

A nice vol­ley from Kieran Clarke ex­tended Aztecs’ lead, James added an­other from dis­tance and Allen got a sec­ond when he was through oneon-one with the Mick­leover keeper.

Ma­son and Robin­son shared the man of the match ac­co­lade af­ter solid half each in goal and as out­field play­ers.

AZTECS Un­der-12 Cougars were given a tough game be­fore beat­ing Mick­leover RBL Golds ear­lier in the sea­son but they had no prob­lems in the re­turn at home, romp­ing to a 9-0 vic­tory.

They took an early lead with a fine shot from 15 yards by De­clan Wal­wyn, then quick­fire goals from De­jvid Sid­ders and Otto Wigley saw them 3-0 up within 10 min­utes.

A cou­ple of at­tacks by Mick­leover were snuffed out by Oliver Love, Matty Gil­lis, Max Atkin­son and Ale­jan­dro Gar­cia-quin­tero.

Three more goals fol­lowed be­fore half-time, through Joshua Me­naj, Luca Baird and Sid­ders.

At half-time, Lu­cas Shirt­cliffe took over in goal from Jamie Longyear, who soon cel­e­brated an out­field role with a lovely fin­ish to make it 7-0.

Harry Moore, re­turn­ing af­ter in­jury, made it eight from a cor­ner be­fore Sid­ders com­pleted his hat-trick to put the lid on a fine per­for­mance.

Longyear was named player of the match.

ASH­BOURNE Aztecs Pu­mas Un­der10s en­joyed their re­turn to non-com­pet­i­tive ac­tion against Chel­las­ton Har­ri­ers.

Luca Mont­gomery was solid in goal, let­ting only one goal in, while Harry Lo­vatt was par­tic­u­larly strong in de­fence.

Rylee Hayes showed he has a pow­er­ful kick, mostly in de­fence, but he also used it score one fine goal.

Joseph Reeks caused the op­po­si­tion lots of prob­lems and cre­ated plenty of chances, while Ben Stubbs got up and dowen the pitch well and was re­warded with a goal.
