Under-16s drop points for first time but they’re still unbeaten
ASHBOURNE Aztecs under-16s dropped points for the first time this season when they returned to action with a 2-2 draw against Mickleover RBL.
Tyler Jackson and Alex Cheetham scored first-half goals for Aztecs but a string of chances went begging in the second half.
Jack Green, Regan Ford, Adam Leigh, Leo Cooper and Jayden Clamp played well in defence, despite some of them being under the weather, but Mickleover were able to get back on terms and take a point.
Aztecs will hope to regain their best form at home to GAD Khalsa on Sun- day.
ASHBOURNE Aztecs Under-14s blew away the Christmas cobwebs in fine style with a 9-0 win over Newhall Tigers, despite missing captain Will Gerrard, who was ruled out through illness.
Stand-in captain Freddie Murphy thrived in his role, netting a hat-trick inside the first 12 minutes as Aztecs poured forward.
Their passing was fast and accurate and the goals kept coming, Will Heron finishing smartly from a tight angle and Toby Carolan tucking home neatly to give them a 5-0 cushion at half-time.
The pattern continued after the break and Carolan soon bagged his second before Murphy scored his fourth. The scoring was rounded off by Callum Lemon and Logan Cuthbert getting goals their performances deserved.
AZTECS Under-13 Juniors recovered from the jolt of conceding a firstminute goal to run out 7-3 winners away to Mickleover Sports Rangers.
They soon settled and equalised when Thomas Mason volleyed in a corner from Theo Allen.
The duo soon combined again, Mason’s through ball sending Allen away to score.
Mickleover hit back to equalise but Mackenzie James scored with a free kick right on half-time to put Aztecs 3-2 up.
At the break, Ashbourne switched keepers, Mason taking over to allow Oscar Robinson a run on the left wing, where he covered plenty of ground and scored a goal.
A nice volley from Kieran Clarke extended Aztecs’ lead, James added another from distance and Allen got a second when he was through oneon-one with the Mickleover keeper.
Mason and Robinson shared the man of the match accolade after solid half each in goal and as outfield players.

A couple of attacks by Mickleover were snuffed out by Oliver Love, Matty Gillis, Max Atkinson and Alejandro Garcia-quintero.
Three more goals followed before half-time, through Joshua Menaj, Luca Baird and Sidders.
At half-time, Lucas Shirtcliffe took over in goal from Jamie Longyear, who soon celebrated an outfield role with a lovely finish to make it 7-0.
