New boss and sponsors as AFC approach season
ASHBOURNE FC have a new manager as they approach the new Staffordshire County Senior League Premier Division season.
Adrian Webb is a familiar figure in the town, as a Shrovetide goalscorer in 2011 and also a member of the successful Norton tug of war team from the area.
He is taking over from Adam Lomas, who stood in last season while recovering from injury.
The club are also pleased to welcome new sponsors on board as they aim to progress.
The new main sponsors are the Royal Oak at Mayfield, backed up by Motus Commercials Ltd.
Tippers Builders Merchants step in as the new main kit sponsors, along with RJ Austin Landscaping and PS Electrical.
Assisting Webb with the first team will be Ian Ford and Nick Fearn, while Sam Archer is taking care of the reserves, assisted by Ian Godfrey.
Last season was tricky for AFC, as they finished third bottom in the Premier Division with a record of won seven, drawn three and lost 18 and had an anxious wait before confirmation that they would not be relegated.
They have played two friendlies so far against higher level teams, losing 3-1 to Borrowash Victoria and 5-1 to Uttoxeter Town.
The league season starts on August 10, while the reserves start on August 24 in the Midlands Regional Alliance.
“I am looking forward to this new challenge,” said Webb.
“I went and watched the majority of games last season when Adam was in charge and the talent that the club has is excellent.
“My main aim at the minute is to boost their fitness levels, so they can compete to their highest standard.
“They are a good bunch of lads who knuckle down and get on with everything that is asked.
“My dad managed the club many years ago and it is a privilege to be able to follow in his footsteps and see where I can push this AFC side to.”
Training is on Wednesday nights on the recreation ground from 6.30-8pm and anyone interested in getting involved is invited to go along.
