The Dairy Shed was absolutely buzzing at Leek with trade on fire from start to finish!

The monthly pedigree sale was complimented by the inclusion of a large entry of Ayrshires from the Alkmonton Herd of Messrs Harris. These were a tremendous group of cows that attracted massive interest which was reflected in the trade which peaked at £2480, with 8 over £2000 to average an amazing £1940!!

Topping at £2480 was a Palmyra Tri-star Burdette heifer Alkmonton Burdette Omlette. Out of an 82 point dam she was sold giving 25kg and was eventually clinched by Mrs Sellors of Grange Mill.

A Leonard Jumper heifer Alkmonton Jumper Kanvas made £2120. Out of an EX90 Stamford cow that was still milking in the herd at home she caught the eye of the Brunt family of Moddershall who successfully took her and a further two at £2100.

The first a second calver by Palymra Calimero Blackjack and the second a Tristar Platinum daughter. A phenomenal 3rd calver Alkmonton Winston Ruth VG85 made £2120.

An extremely powerful cow, she attracted great interest and was eventually bought by John Fernyhough of Swythamley. In-calf heifers peaked at £1420 with yearlings to £690.

Black and whites topped at £2340 for a Cangen Pinkman daughter from William Bunting. Giving 31kg, she went to Brian Parker of Stafford.

Hot on her tail was a tremendously well bred heifers from the Mercer family of Malpas. Sandringham Lineman Sara boasted 8 gens VG/EX and despite been light on a quarter reached £2320.

Trade was fast for all qualities which is reflected in the average for every last milker sold of £1712! At Leek we have the capacity to sell both Milkers and youngstock on the SAME day maximising the potential of a good crowd and minimising time spent away from home which is so precious for farmers in this day and age.
