Sponsor a pet and help Ark weather the virus storm

ASHBOURNE Animal Welfare’s resident dogs and cats have suddenly found themselves settling in for a longer stay at the Wyaston Road rescue and rehoming centre than its staff and volunteers first thought.

The public have always been invited to sponsor any of the long-stay residents at The Ark.

But now that all its current inhabitants have become long-stay during the coronavirus lock-down, the charity is opening the scheme up to every dog and cat it currently cares for.

Ashbourne Animal Welfare usually relies on open days, fund-raising events and dog boarding income to pay its substantial costs, but with this revenue stream currently cut off, its sponsorship scheme has never been more important.

So this week the News Telegraph is supporting the charity by showcasing all the pets that have been put forward for sponsorship.

A spokesman for the charity said: “Ashbourne Animal Welfare would like

Patrick

Rocky to thank everyone who has already sent donations to help them during these troubled times.

“We have been moved by the kindness and generosity of people, many of whom have wished to remain anonymous, and that their messages of support and encouragement are helping the charity remain positive and hopeful during this time of crisis.”

Sponsors can choose from any of the cats or dogs shown here or on the charity’s website at www.ashbourneanimalwelfare.org

Sponsors will receive a picture of their chosen cat or dog and a copy of the charity’s current Newsletter - these will be emailed if possible.

It costs just £10 (or more if you choose) per cat or dog and payment can be made either by visiting the charity’s website, clicking on the donate button and saying which cat or dog you want to sponsor or by calling 01335 300494 and paying by card over the phone.

Alternatively, people can post a cheque payable to Ashbourne Animal Welfare to The Ark, Wyaston Rd, Ashbourne DE6 1NB.
