A LUXURIOUS new holiday lodge park is set to be built in a rural spot near Ashbourne.

A scheme has been submitted to East Staffordshire Borough Council’s planning officers to built the units on land off Michael’s Lane, in Wootton.

Applicant Weaver Lea Lodges want to build eight “high-quality” units on the land, which is currently used for agricultural grazing. The planning, design and access statement reads: “The development generally will provide significant benefits to the local economy in terms of both the direct and indirect spend associated with the holiday lodges.

“Additional support to local businesses will be promoted through the employment of local contractors and tradesmen such as builders, electricians, plumbers, landscapers and cleaning staff in the construction process and thereafter during the operation of the site.

“Due to the small-scale, rural aspect of the development, there will be no requirement for any supporting commercial facilities, such as a clubhouse or small shop/supermarket.

“Visitors to the lodge park will therefore use existing facilities and shops in the area, which further emphasises the importance of the proposed development to the rural economy.” An existing public footpath running through the site will not be impacted as a result of the scheme, the plans explain.

The lodges will be roughly 40ft by 20ft and include space for living and dining, as well as bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms. One car parking space will be created for each lodge.

Planning bosses will decide whether to grant permission for the scheme in the coming months.
