Councillor’s plea to those visiting area
DERBYSHIRE Dales District Council’s leader Garry Purdy has appealed to would-be visitors to the district to be “respect and protect” residents as they make plans to travel to the area.
Cllr Purdy said: “While I understand the temptation to seek some respite from the constraints on all of us by the virus crisis, my appeal to anyone considering a trip is not to focus so much on what you can now do – but what you should do.
“Visiting the Dales now will undoubtedly create tensions in our communities as well as placing pressure on our roads and emergency services. As a former police officer, I have a massive amount of sympathy for the policing job they face.
“We will welcome you back with open arms when this virus is under control - our leisure and tourism businesses need your support in the long term. But, for now, please don’t put our limited local services under pressure.”
