Tennis gives it a go, too

-

ASHBOURNE Tennis Club have opened up again in line with the government’s new recovery strategy.

Club members have been able to enjoy their first game of tennis since the courts, next to Peak Gateway Caravan Park, were locked down on March 23.

Michelle Doran and husband Paul, were first on court on Thursday and said: “It was a joy to be back playing tennis again”.

Jenny Morrison and husband Tom were next up.

The club are adhering to LTA guidance and have introduced new rules to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Courts must be pre-booked; players must bring their own rackets and balls; the social distancing (two-metre) rule still applies and players must follow the usual public health guidelines for hygiene.

Club chairman Andy Bailey said: “We are delighted to be back on court but the new rules must be followed.

“Only singles play is allowed with someone from outside your own household.

“Doubles is only permitted if the four players come from the same household.

“We have decided to open up the courts to non-members for a special rate so that everyone in the area has the chance to enjoy a bit of outdoor sport in these difficult times.

“If you are bored with walking, jogging or online exercise classes, why not give it a go?

“It’s £10 per court per hour.

Anyone interested can book a court through our secretary, Sally Longley (sally.ashbournetennis@gmail.com or on 07787 118013).

“We are also offering discounted full memberships this season as play is restricted – it’s going to be about half the usual price, with adult membership at £50 and family membership at £100.

“We are hoping there’s going to be lots of interest and we look forward to seeing some new faces at the club.”
