AFC get a cash grant to help bounce back

-

ASHBOURNE FC have been awarded £1,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Community Emergency Fund towards the costs of running the club during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The outbreak of the virus has left both business and sport facing a uncertain future.

As a result, at the end of March,

Sport England announced a £195m package to help the sport and physical activity sector through Covid-19.

Within that was the £20m Community Emergency Fund to deliver immediate funding to organisation who have a role in supporting the nation to be active but have short-term financial hardship or the ceasing of operations due to the impact of coronavirus.

For AFC, the grant means they can meet ongoing costs, such as personal accident insurance for the players and training equipment for next season, whenever that is able to start.

It could also help with increased costs for the necessary extra hygiene facilities when that happens.

“We are delighted to benefit from the fund,” said AFC chairman Paul Riley.

“This enables us to plan with confidence for the commencement of the next season and gives the whole club a significant boost to morale.

“Traditionally, we have raised much-needed funds via summer fund-raising events, which look increasingly unlikely to take place, making this award even more timely and appreciated.

“We remain determined to provide Ashbourne and surrounding areas with the best opportunity to play or be involved with football and we work to be inclusive for all players, coaches, supporters and volunteers.”
